Design Tips and Ideas
The "Decorating
Project".
Paint the Town Fred are not interior designers but
part of our customer service philosophy is to provide whatever help and support we can, to assist clients in
making those all important design decisions. Some of the ideas, tips and basic rules that have proved useful
in the past are:
- Style - is a very personal
choice and success is ensuring that you select from the broadest range possible and choose a look you feel
comfortable with. For ideas browse the following web sites, specialist books featured opposite or the many
magazines on the subject. Somewhere along the way you will come across the look that you want to use as a
theme.

Planning - draw a
plan of the room to be decorated including the furnishings which will definitely be staying. Add in and locate
any new additions.
- Wallpaper - is not just a means of hiding poor quality walls. Rooms with a papered feature
wall have grown in popularity over the last decade. Choose your design at an early stage and obtain samples.
- Lighting - identify which direction the windows are facing
as the amount of available natural light will have an impact on colour selection. Also add in existing lighting
to your plan and identify areas of potential improvement.
- Colour scheme - From your room plan identify the Start Colour and from the Colour Wheel identify the harmonising or contrasting colours. No more than a
total of 3 per room. Select you proposed colour scheme and obtain tester pots. Test your scheme
alongside the rooms, flooring, carpets, curtains and wallpaper.
